A week in the life

Many MANY years ago, on Dodo’s message board (which is no longer around) and we used to do this thing called “Daily Grind” project. You can still view mine right here: http://www.kirstybase.com/photolog/  It went on for 5 wonderful years and I have my life captured from such a long time ago :) People from all over the world shared their stories and photos and it was just a great experience and a peek in to other cultures.

Being a scrapbooker I decided to put them into an album, just plain and simple like I did on my photolog. I came up with a sketch and had matching KI Memories stuff from a few Christmasses previous and put it in an album (also matching KI Memories lol)  Now it’s not amazing to look at, but the story is there, and that’s all that matters :)

Daily Grind album

Ali’s Basics post is here: http://www.aliedwards.com/2010/04/the-basics-of-documenting-a-week-in-your-life.html I love her design for her album and how it looks, so I think I may just scraplift it!

I’m currently fixing my computer, hope it works soon!

Pretty Rainbow

My cousin had a little girl last week, and as a little present I decided on a quilt… I saw this rainbow fat quarter in Hobby Craft and I fell in love! So much so, I’m not sure I’ll want to part with the quilt when it’s done LOL!  Who wouldn’t want a pretty rainbow to cheer them up every day?

Fabric squares

I’ve cut 96 squares, and I’ve now got to sew them all together. The backing fabric will be pink (for a girl of course!) and white bias binding. My first quilt, I’m so excited!  And not forgetting all the other cool stuff:

(1) I’ve had an e-mail about my extra bobbin case. As I have a Brother sewing machine it will not do shirring so I have to get an extra bobbin case to adjust the tension and be able to do it! I will get to have my cute top after all!
(2) Free coffee cup album at twopeas
(3) Free eBook at Ella Publishing
(4) Gossiping with Kelly Ann about hairstyles for the wedding (She’s doing my hair and nails for me), scrapbooking, sewing and the colour GREEN :)   I have got to make her a little something from my left over green fabric :)
(5) Loooong weekend! I’m going to do some MAJOR spring cleaning, and I’m completely into Martha Stewart right now, she is just my idol at the moment :) I have a lever arch folder where I’m gathering things from Martha Stewart’s website and putting in the folder for safe keeping and easy referal later!

My Colorado has arrived!

Super DUPER excited, my Garmin Colorado arrived on Friday by courier. Super service, I bought it from a merchant on Amazon and it was super speedy and wonderful service!  I have loaded it up with quite a few geocaches, and the reason I purchased the Colorado was because it has Wherigo capabilities, so I’ve loaded it with a few Wherigo cartridges as well :)

I went to my nan’s as I do every Saturday and I had my little helper Morgan with me, and there is a cache right around the corner from my nan’s house which I have found before to make it easier, so with GPS in hand we set out to test it out :)

Garmin Colorado

We luckily timed our outing just right as on the way back it started to rain. I managed to avoid the rain twice – testing the GPS then walking from my parents to my place LOL! But sadly it’s been raining heavy since and I haven’t been able to go out and find a cache yet, nor play Wherigo.  I have some rechargable batteries, which I know are more expensive but I like knowing I have batteries on hand if need be, and it’s a good job because my Colorado gobbled up the fresh batteries I put in so I took them out, recharged and put them back in… So I will have to make sure I have several batteries on hand!  But in comparison to the iPhone which we used before, we had no way of charging it up on the go, at least if you have batteries on you when the others are used up you can change it and keep going!

Hurry up Spring!

Themes

I have been working on redoing the couple of themes I had done and I’ve so far done a green photoblog theme for WordPress. I will be working on this one for Blogger very soon, but I will update you all on that once it’s done. Just wanted to post that I’m doing some new free themes :)   And my photoblog themes are Flash Fader ready as well so you can have a flash header like that in my photography blog. All you have to do is install the plugin to WordPress as you normally would do and the theme is already set to show the flash header over the header image.

How to unwind

I spent this morning working on my wedding invites, I was literally sat in the bedroom with the sewing machine and silver thread sewing on my invites. It seems I don’t like to do things easily!  My geocaching book arrived today so once I had done that I sat and read it for a bit.

This then got me thinking about some stuff to put in caches when I next go. I don’t have anything really on hand and I have some silver fimo I’ve not used in a long time and I got to making some pendants/charms/zipper pulls (whatever they’ll be used for lol!) In my log reading experience it’s mainly guys and their kids who geocache that I’ve seen (not saying that’s all who does it, I mean look at me exhibit A!)  so why not take something back home for mummy/wife/girlfriend LOL!

Pendants

And then while uploading the image, I realise I hadn’t uploaded the photo of my 2009 xmas ornament. What a donut! It’s a bottle cap with diamond glaze :)

More Caching

I haven’t been Geocaching in a while. I really do love it loads though :)   We used to use the iPhone app, and it was absolutely AWESOME. But the iPhone had to go back and we had no GPS, and I’ve been itching to get back into Geocaching again. I’ve looked at getting a GPS for the spring, so I’m looking forward to that… But there was a cache just down the road from where I worked and we were moving offices today… so I just HAD to log it!  I went on Google Earth and got a good idea of roughly where it was, and on my lunch on Tuesday I found the “Bridge in the gap” geocache :)

"Bridge in the gap" cache

I had a feeling it was a Nano, but I was so glad it was a micro instead, made it that much easier to find without the GPS!
Signing the log

And as it was also my birthday on Tuesday (27 years old. I’ve lost a decade somewhere…) I had treated myself to this geocoin!
My geocoin

I’m not tracking it, I’m keeping it :D But I am looking into a couple of tracking Bugs. I spent over an hour just sat adding things to my wishlist at a Geocaching shop lol! I do hope to do a cache of my own over the summer too, so I will keep you all updated on that ;)

Been shopping and Pogo information

Bringing shopping home

Nope, still can’t move my car, so it was up to Morrisons (where people were battling for parking spaces and the “parent and toddler” spaces were up for grabs by anyone who could get it one. Inside was not much fun either – I wished I had got some video footage but it was pure madness and I just wanted to get out of there! Once we were done, we loaded up the sledge so I could bring it home.

Now on to Journal/Pogo stuff :)   {click on Read rest of entry}

Me no likey snow no more!

View from work window

This was the view from my window at work when it started snowing on Tuesday. I was excited, I loved snow :)

Getting to work

This was me and Gareth walking to get to work (Pictures taken on my mobile phone). Gareth had to walk a distance to get the bus as it wasn’t doing the full route as our end of the bus route is pretty trecherous, then catch the train to work, and today was his first day back since beng sent home at 2pm on Tuesday and taking 3 hours to get home when it only takes him 20 mins in general.  That pic is of the little back road that our Cul-De-Sac joins on to. That is just a big sheet of ice – not very many cars are getting up this way! In fact a young girl got stuck and it took a couple of us to try and get her moving again and it wasn’t easy!

I, on the other hand, stupidly thought I could walk to work. It’s 3.3 miles and on a good day will take just over an hour. I got so far walking and the paths were so icey I nearly slipped several times. I wanted to cry, turn around and go home. But one thing kept me going: Everyone was soooo friendly. Nearly every single person I walked past wished me a Good Morning. Everyone is pitching in helping each other, and giving way etc. I was approaching a very slippy crossing (which I had no right of way) and I turned to see a big truck heading towards me, not wanting to take the chance I waited but the guy stopped and ushered me across.

I got about 2.5 ish miles when I was really lagging and a work colleague spotted me and picked me up. Much to my relief – only to then realise I had the walk home, but she took me to the nearest clear main road, so I had only a short walk.

Today I ache in places I had forgotten about.

Snow Day!

Yesterday was a nice surprise as we had a bit of snow and a couple of people were sent home. This morning the alarm went off and I headed straight for the curtain to see a heck of a lot of snow. My parents couldn’t get their car out and quite a few of my neighbours came out took one look at their car and headed back inside. One van tried to get in our cul-de-sac and it took a while! I phoned some colleagues and spoke to my boss and in the end decided on a snow day!

There’s just something about snow that makes everything look so pretty :)   I leave you with this image of my brother’s snow man in his garden:

Merry Christmas!

Christmas pressies 2009

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Xmas :) I’ve had such an amazing day, hanging with my family – this is the first time in around 10 years that we’ve spent it all together and had xmas dinner on xmas day and not New Years day lol!  The most amazing present has to be the Pogo! I will write about it very soon, as it’s just wonderful for journals :D
